CREST conducts workshop on GIS

Facilitators and participants during the workshop on Geographic Information System (GIS) for energy research

The workshop was held in the SOE Conference Room on January 8-10, 2018. It was attended by the faculty researchers and research assistants of the CHED Newton Fund Institutional Links Project headed by Engr. Isabelo A. Rabuya as the project leader under the Center for Research in Energy Systems and Technology (CREST).

The 3-day workshop on GIS was facilitated by Dr. Alejandro F. Tongco, a Geographic Information System (GIS) for Renewable Energy consultant. QGIS software was introduced during the workshop. It is a free and open-source cross-platform desktop application software on geographic information system. With this workshop, the participants were able to perform map projections, GPS field data collection and integration, and most importantly, application of GIS to energy research using the open-source software- QGIS. This workshop is part of the outlined activities of the CHED Newton Fund Institutional Links Project on “Capacity Building in Research and Development Embedded in Case Studies Related to Energy in the Built Environment and for Rural Electrification”.
